General Prerequisites
Basic knowledge on Prehistoric Archaeology is required
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will have familiarized themselves:
a) with different approaches as regards the presentation of cultural remains of the prehistoric period,
b) with various practices in managing prehistoric finds under rescue/systematic excavations,
c) with issues regarding the management of cultural heritage.
The successful completion of the course, provides students with valuable skills that enable them, as future school teachers, to organize and undertake successfully visits to museums and archaeological sites, preparing high-school students for an empirical acquisition of knowledge (through interaction with objects/spaces/people etc), complementary to teaching in the classroom.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course is organized along three axes. The first concerns visits to archaeological museums in Thessaly and Macedonia in northern Greece. The second axis concerns visits to prehistoric sites in these areas and to on-going archaeological excavations of prehistoric sites. The course also touches upon issues of presenting archaeological finds to the public with special reference to rescue excavations and educational programs. Students have the opportunity to attend the themes, goals and outcome of selected educational projects always in collaboration with the archaeologists/museologists of the Ministry of Culture, responsible for undertaking these projects.
Besides visits to sites and museums the course includes interviews with archaeologists involved in such projects. The course is offered to a limited number of students. Assessment consists of a written essay and its oral presentation.
