Course Content (Syllabus)
Signaling molecules and their receptors. Signaling pathways, interaction with transcription factors. Scaffold proteins and membrane rafts. Ion transport through pumps. Ion channels. Signaling in microorganisms – Two-component systems. Bacterial response to iron deficiency – bacterial siderophores. Signaling in microorganisms due to nitrogen or phosphorus deficiency – Pathogenicity – Compound synthesis. Cell differentiation and signal transduction (osteoblasts, chondrocytes). Regulation of the cell cycle. Oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, and programmed cell death.
