Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the students to the health and safety as well as to the risk management process for the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The main concepts, definitions and relevant indices that describe H&S issues are presented, while the main types, causes and consequences of accidents and failures are analyzed. Key risk assessment methodologies are analyzed and illustrated under various techniques (e.g. Fault Trees, Event Trees, Monte Carlo probabilistic modeling), the acceptable risk and potential mitigation measures are identified. Finally, techniques for the optimal decision making under uncertainty are presented with the use of decision trees.
