Learning Outcomes
The types of intra-abdominal and postoperative infections will be studied. Students will familiarize themselves with issues of distinguishing community infections from hospital-acquired infections, epidemiological data, morbidity/mortality, risk factors and will be able to recognize the clinical picture and apply the correct diagnostic methods
(haematological/biochemical, imaging, microbiological tests) and
treatment (antimicrobial, surgical, minimally invasive). Additionally, they will become familiar with specific issues of antimicrobial therapy (monotherapy versus combination antibiotics,
adjustment of antimicrobial treatment based on the severity of the infection and
presence or absence of risk factors for resistant pathogens, duration
antimicrobial therapy) and special cases (acute cholecystitis, acute
cholangitis, acute appendicitis, acute diverticulitis, acute pancreatitis,
liver abscesses, obstructive ileus, periodontitis and abscesses

community from nosocomial infections, epidemiological data,
morbidity/mortality, risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnostic methods
(haematological/biochemical, imaging, microbiological tests),
treatment (antimicrobial, surgical, minimally invasive), special topics
of antimicrobial therapy (monotherapy versus a combination of antibiotics,
adjustment of antimicrobial treatment based on the severity of the infection and
presence or absence of risk factors for resistant pathogens, duration
