Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students: Will understand the concepts of space, city, urban planning. Will be familiar with the Greek legislation of urban planning. Will delve into specific urban planning issues (traffic/pedestrian/bike networks, urban greenery, organized construction, underground urban development, smart cities, etc.). Will be able to capture in plans and with GIS tools the land uses of an urban area, interpret spatial issues, propose the redesign of areas.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to the concept of space and the evolution of the city (antiquity - modern cities). Urban Planning Legislation in Greece. Special topics in urban planning: Urban mobility networks, urban green/public space, neighborhoods, organized construction, integration of minorities into the urban fabric, underground cities, smart cities. Use of cadastre in urban planning.

Student Assessment
Description
Students prepare a project working in groups (70%), which includes field research in a selected urban area, design, bibliographic research/study and essay writing. They are also examined by written examination (30%) in the theoretical knowledge of the course. A passing grade in the course requires the basis in both (project and examination).
