Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. Apply the basic principles by which thematic phenomena can be mapped from a wide range of applications of the human and natural environment.
2. Use of a number of different softwares of classification, elaboration and representation of big volume of thematic data on a map.
2. Compile digitally ready-to-print thematic maps according to the rules of the science of cartography, with the various software they use in the exercises of the course.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Subject of the course. Thematic phenomena and their classification. The scale in thematic maps. Rules for the graphic representation of thematic information. Collection, elaboration & processing, representation of thematic information. Symbolizing nominal, ordinal, numerical information. Types of thematic maps (choropleth, isoline, dot, cartograms). Correlation of thematic information. Synthesis rules and thematic map creation.
