Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of the course the students will: 1. understand the technologies being employed in print media. 2. understand the basic concepts of print production workflow. 3. acquire the basic skills of page design software. 4. complete practical page editing exercises.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focus on print production workflow and layout and page design software for print and digital media (screen topography, initial settings, palette configuration, program customization, page configuration, style creation and modification, text management, text boxes, linking, and text processing are examined in detail). The techniques of creating image boxes, inserting and editing images, as well as the flow of text around the image are also examined. The course, due to its laboratory nature, has mandatory attendance and due to the limited places in the laboratory, registration is required in the form of expression of interest at the beginning of the semester. Distribution of the course material over the 13 weeks period 1st week > Course presentation: Content, structure, evaluation 2nd week > Theory on print production technology 3rd week > Presentation of print publishing software, versions, and capabilities - Theory & exercise 4th week > Typography and typesetting - Theory & exercise 5th week > Typographic readability - Theory & exercise Week 6 > Standard printing paper sizes and paper types - Theory & exercise 7th week > Newspaper and front-page design - Theory & exercise 8th week > Color in composition ¬- Theory & exercise 9th week > Types of folding and binding - Theory & exercise 10th week > Advertising forms - Theory & exercise 11th week > Poster- Theory & exercise 12th week > Magazine - Theory & exercise 13th week > Final exercise, Designing a newspaper with students’ texts and photos

Description
Use of digital presentations throughout the lessons and provision of additional learning resources through the elearning.auth.gr platform (moodle). Communication with students via email as well as via the communication tools provided by the elearning.auth.gr platform. Evaluation through multiple choice questions on the elearning.auth.gr platform.
