Learning Outcomes
This course addresses issues related to the embryology of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), themacroscopic and microscopic anatomy of the TMJ, the masticatory and head and neck muscles along with the ligaments supporting all structure and the nerves. Epidemiology, prevalence as well as signs and symptoms and Diagnostic criteria of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and relative indices used are analyzed and also thebehavioral and psychological mechanisms in TMD.In addition there will be an extensive and in depth study of the different muscle disorders, disorders employingreferred pain and patterns,joint disorders, internal derangements of TMJ, arthritis and degenerative changes. Finally imaging techniques for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of TMD will be presented, concluding with the current modalities for efficient management of TMD.
