Learning Outcomes
Students learn the basic concepts of industrial minerals and rocks, ores and energy resources.
They are taught the uses of industrial minerals and rocks and the role of trace elements in the environment. Emphasis will be given to the use of minerals and rocks for the protection and restoration of the environment.
They will learn about environmental mineralogy and understand the importance of environmental protection in the context of National and European legislation.
They will be trained to identify the environmental problems arising from the mining industry and understand how to prepare environmental studies for quarries and mines through specific examples.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Industrial minerals and rocks - ore deposits - energy raw materials – trace elements and environment, environmental uses of industrial minerals and rocks. Environmental mineralogy. Legislation and environment. Environmental problems arising from the mining industry and ways of treatment. Examples of Environmental Impact Assessment in quarries and mines. Minerals and rocks used in the rehabilitation and treatment of the environment.
