Learning Outcomes
·Students will understand the importance of sediment sampling for environmental and paleoenvironmental purposes. ·They will become familiar with the various types of sediment samples (disturbed and undisturbed). ·They will acquire knowledge of the different sampling methods, such as drilling, push sampling, and percussion drilling, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each method. ·They will be able to choose the appropriate sampling method based on the purpose of the study and the requirements of the analysis. ·They will be able to organize a sampling plan, taking into account factors such as sampling depth, sampling frequency, and the location of sampling points. ·They will become familiar with the equipment used for sampling loose sediments.

Course Content (Syllabus)
·Technical principles of sediment sampling according to ISO 22475, ASTM D6282, EN 1997-1, and EN 1997-2. ·Recovery of soil samples of sufficient quality for determining the required sediment characteristics in the laboratory for environmental and paleoenvironmental purposes. ·Sampling through drilling (continuous sampling). ·Direct push soil sampling. ·Sampling with percussion drilling. ·Small-diameter drilling sampling. ·Sampling with open tube or piston samplers. ·Block sampling. ·Handling, transport, and storage of samples, preservation of materials, and sample packaging.
