Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Assimilate fundamental concepts of multifunctional forestry and innovation in the utilization of forest resources, as well as the entire value chain of forest production.
- Expand their knowledge on contemporary issues such as the economics of climate change, bioeconomy, and ecological innovation.
- Acquire the ability to evaluate investments in forests and the natural environment, as well as projects with an environmental focus.
- Assess the value of forests using traditional forest economics models (e.g., Faustmann) as well as more modern approaches.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focuses on modern approaches to forest economics and the importance of sustainability and innovation in managing forest resources. Students will learn to integrate fundamental concepts of multifunctional forestry and effectively utilize forest resources across the entire value chain of forest production. The content also addresses contemporary issues such as the economics of climate change, bioeconomy, and ecological innovation, preparing participants to understand how these factors impact forest production and exploitation. Emphasis is placed on the evaluation of investments in forests and the natural environment, as well as environmentally-oriented projects, enabling students to recognize opportunities in forest management. Additionally, students will acquire knowledge of forest valuation using classical models like the Faustmann model, alongside more modern approaches. Technology and innovation in managing forest enterprises are also key components, equipping students with skills to transition from theory to practice. Lastly, students will be able to stay informed about international developments in policies related to sustainability, environmental protection, and entrepreneurship.
