Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: - Measure tree characteristics using various instruments. - Estimate the volume and accuracy of a forest area. - Create and verify single-entry and double-entry volume tables. - Design forest inventory tasks if given the data of a managed forest. - Assess timber stock, growth, and various categories of forest yield. - Determine the final yield based on the control method. - Assimilate basic concepts of multifunctional forestry in the utilization of forest resources and the entire value chain of forest production. - Acquire the ability to cost and economically evaluate forest production. - Develop the capacity to assess the value of sections of forest operations. - Evaluate investments in forests and the natural environment, as well as environmentally focused projects, and leverage funding tools and opportunities.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The purpose of the course (forest field practice) is the practical application of knowledge in Forest Biometrics, Forest Management, and Forest Economics in the field (University Forest of Pertouli). The exercise aims to enhance understanding of the process of estimating forest yield data for the University Forest of Pertouli (UFP), train students in the use of specialized instruments for measuring forest stand parameters, and estimate the standing volume of forest stands and the actual yield by applying mathematical methods, including the estimation of sustainable yield. Additionally, students will be trained in the creation and verification of local volume tables for forest stands. The course also seeks to familiarize students with the basic concepts of multifunctional forestry in the utilization of forest resources and the entire value chain of forest production. Students will gain the ability to assess the costs and perform economic evaluations of forest production, as well as evaluate the value of forest management segments. The final outcome will be the comparison of sustainable yield with the total forestry yield of all sections. At the end of the course, students will submit a report to assess their learning outcomes in all of the above areas. Topics covered include multifunctional forestry, cost analysis of forest production, expenses of forest production, revenue from the sale of forest products, forest product market analysis, and forecasting the quantity and quality of forest production. Day 1 (Forest Biometrics Exercise): Introduction to the exercise process, distribution of necessary materials, presentation of measurement principles with all instruments, collection of biometric data. Day 2 (Forest Biometrics Exercise): Estimation of tree and forest ecosystem volume using sampling methods, establishment of fixed-area sample plots and Bitterlich points, application of sampling designs, processing of primary data to estimate stand volume. Day 3 (Forest Biometrics Exercise): Estimation of tree volume through the creation of volume models, creation of volume tables, collection of biometric data, and processing of primary data to compile volume tables. Day 4: Introduction to the exercise process, distribution of necessary materials, travel to sections and identification of sample points in the field, beginning of data collection using a relascope and fixed-area plots. Day 5: Data collection in the field. Day 6: Data processing and presentation of results by each group followed by discussion. Day 7: Introduction to multifunctional forestry and strategies for forestry at national and international levels, cost analysis of forest production, expenses, revenues from forest products sales, market analysis of forest products, estimation and forecasting of the quantity and quality of forest production, costing methods, and evaluation of forest management segments.

Description
The achievement of learning objectives will be assessed based on the submission of an individual field practice exercise conducted in the university forests. To secure a passing grade (at least five), students must achieve a passing score on the final assessment, which includes: - Mandatory participation in the field practice at the University Forests. - Collection and presentation of measurement data, including volume estimates and volume tables. - Participation in the collection of inventory data and accurate calculation of timber production parameters. - Completion and submission of an individual report in the form of an exercise based on the course content.
