Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the students should be able to:
- to recognize the geoenvironmental hazards and their impact on ground (instability, erosion, pollution, etc.)
- to understand the physicochemical and biological mechanisms of the evolution of pollution
- to propose the appropriate technologies for decontamination, restoration and protection of ground and aquifers
- to recognize the importance of the geological and geotechnical conditions for the selection of sites for solid and liquid waste disposal
- to apply geotechnical engineering principles to the design of sites for solid and liquid waste disposal
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to Enviromental Geotechnical Engineering and legislative framework.
Geoenvironmental hazards. Ground degradation
Elements of Geochemistry and soil science.
Ground pollution, sources and acceptable limits
Pollutants migration and their interaction with ground. Physicochemical and biological transfer mechanisms.
Methods of decontamination, restoration and protection of geomaterials and aquifers
Geotechnical and geophysical investigation
Geological and geotechnical criteria for the selection of sites for solid and liquid waste disposal
Geotechnical design of solid and liquid waste disposal sites
Mechanical behavior of solid waste and geomateriald containining waste
