Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will acquire: Knowledge The history and evolution of the sport of tennis. The official rules and regulations of the game. Technical analysis of advanced strokes and methods for optimizing performance. Tactical development in doubles and mixed doubles matches. The "Play and Stay" developmental stages for players under the age of 10. Understanding the role and professional profile of the tennis coach. Principles of physical conditioning for players under 10 years old. Comprehension of performance and efficiency assessment factors both on-court and in laboratory settings. Skills Accurate execution of all basic and advanced tennis strokes. Application of appropriate feeding techniques based on the training objective. Demonstration of correct motor patterns to athletes. Selection and implementation of suitable exercises according to age and skill level. Participation in singles and doubles matches. Fulfillment of officiating duties as Chair Umpire and Line Judge. Design of tennis-specific physical conditioning programs (endurance, strength, speed, agility). Monitoring and assessment of an athlete’s performance and effectiveness. Competencies Identification of technical and tactical errors during stroke execution. Application of appropriate teaching methods and corrective techniques. Evaluation of athlete performance through observation or the use of tools and technology. Development of coaching strategies and design of individualized or group training programs. Effective management of training equipment (rackets, balls, nets, auxiliary tools). Use of modern technology in coaching and assessment processes. Undertaking responsibilities as coaches in sports clubs or the private sector. Demonstration of organization, responsibility, and consistency in coaching practice.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Course Aim The aim of the course is to provide students with comprehensive theoretical and practical training in tennis, equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies for teaching, coaching, and organizing the sport at various levels. The course seeks to systematically familiarize students with the techniques and tactics of tennis, the implementation of pedagogical and instructional methods, and the understanding of the importance of sportsmanship and the promotion of physical education through tennis. Course Objectives The course aims to: Enable the understanding and application of the fundamental techniques and tactics of tennis. Develop students' teaching skills. Deepen theoretical knowledge related to the sport. Foster critical thinking and analytical abilities. Cultivate athletic education and the ethical standards of the coach/educator. Teaching Methods The course will be conducted through a combination of active and experiential learning strategies, including: • Lectures and interactive discussions held both in the classroom and on the court. • Collaborative learning in small groups, operating within an interdisciplinary framework. • Practical experience in both school and competitive (athletic) environments. ________________________________________ Learning Resources & Materials Students will have access to academic material primarily through the Moodle (e-learning) platform. This material will include: • Reading files and lecture notes. • Additional recommended bibliography. • Official postings and resources from the Hellenic Tennis Federation and the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Student Assessment
Description
Throughout the semester, regular and active participation in the course is assessed (20%), along with the presentation of an assignment (10%). At the end of the semester, there are practical exams (40%) and a theoretical exam in Tennis (30%). At the practical part students were examined: a) individually in the technique of the strokes after feeding by the teacher-coach and b) in pairs in match conditions. Written Exams are performed for testing the theory of the sport. Essential condition for final success in the exams is achieved when at least the grade 5 ("sufficient") in each one of the three Exams parts is reached. The criteria are explicitly reported in the Syllabus of the course and communicated to the students in the first lesson. Moreover, the criteria can also be found in the Department's internet page of the person who is in charge of the course.
