Course Objectives and Description
The course focuses on improving technical and competitive ability in tennis. Students practice in competitive conditions (singles and doubles with tie-break application), are introduced to and deepen in the techniques of volley and overhead service and learn to recognize and correct technical errors. In addition, they are introduced to basic principles of refereeing and English terminology of the sport, gaining a more complete picture of tennis as a sports and educational tool.
Learning Objectives
The course aims to:
• Strengthen the technical training of students in competitive strokes forehand/backhand volley and overhead service.
• Develop the skills to participate in tennis matches with or without a referee, with the application of the tie-break system.
• Understand and apply basic regulations of the sport, with emphasis on refereeing and special terminology.
• Cultivating the ability to recognize and correct technical errors, both in personal execution and during supervision of others.
• Preparing students to teach basic tennis elements to novice athletes or students.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will acquire:
Knowledge:
• Application of match and refereeing rules (tie-break, singles, doubles).
• Theoretical understanding of technique and errors in volley and overhead strokes.
• Basic English tennis terminology.
Skills:
• Execution of forehand/backhand volley and overhead service with technical proficiency.
• Recognition and correction of common errors in technique.
• Participation in matches with adherence to regulations, with or without a referee.
Skills:
• Teaching basic tennis skills to beginners.
• Taking on key refereeing roles in student/coaching settings.
• Collaborating in sports environments through group exercise formats.
