Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to flora and vegetation. Abiotic factors influencing the Greek flora and vegetation. Modern flora, endemism, (the concept of endemism, categories of endemic plants, Greek flora endemism). Rare and threatened plant species of Greek flora (categories of threatened species). Protection of plant species in Greece. European and national plant protective legislation. Phytogeographic divisions of the Greek territory. Introduction to Greek vegetation. Zonal vegetation (vegetation zones in Greece, Maquis, Phrygana, Garigue). Exozonal vegetation. Azonal vegetation (Coastal vegetation, freshwater vegetation, swamp/pond vegetation, rock and scree vegetation, human induced vegetation, meadow vegetation). Flora and vegetation of national parks, aesthetic forests, wetlands, plant nature monuments.
