Learning Outcomes
This course aims at familiarizing the students with the advanced techniques of comparison of laws and of Public International Law, EU Law and Private International Law as well of Human Rights, so that the students through the general principles of International and European legal order to understand the choices of the Greek Legislature in the field of Law of Aliens and Immigration. Final aim is to strengthen the critical legal thought in relation to current situations, such as the status of third country nationals of Greek origin, family reunification, long-term residents, high-qualified employees, unaccompanied minors, asylum seekers, victims of smuggling and trafficking, irregular migration and beneficiaries of international protection.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to the legal problems of immigration and deepening to special issues that the aliens legally or illegally residing in Greece usually face: Concept of aliens. General principles of Aliens' Law, as reflected in International and European instruments. International, European and Constitutional protection of aliens. Issues related to entry, exit, residence, establishment and employment of aliens. Family reunification and status of long-term residents. Issues relating to administrative deportation and extradition. The exercise of profession by aliens and the prohibition of acquisition of real rights in border areas. Matters related to trafficking and smuggling, the process of recognition of refugees, unaccompanied minors, as well as specific issues related to their personal situation.
