Course Content (Syllabus)
The course “Academic Skills: Presenting” is an essential part of academic training, focusing on the development of presentation and communication skills within a scholarly context. In this course, students learn the art of oral presentation as well as the importance of clear, persuasive, and effective communication of academic ideas.
Throughout the course, students are introduced to the fundamentals of preparing a presentation, including its structure, the development of a clear and compelling introduction, and the use of graphics, charts, and examples to support their arguments. They also engage with techniques for effective communication, including voice, movement, and the appropriate use of space.
During practical exercises and assessments, students receive feedback that helps them improve their skills. A key component of the course is also learning how to handle audience questions and objections seriously and skillfully.
By taking this course, students develop skills that not only support them in academic presentations but also benefit them in the world of research and their professional careers by enhancing their ability to communicate ideas successfully and confidently.

Student Assessment
Description
The course includes an oral examination and two short in-class presentations. Each presentation must be accompanied by a PowerPoint and a thesis paper (Thesenpapier).
