Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able: 1). To plan, establish and manage modern forest nurseries. 2). Organize and produce high quality forest reproductive material, suitable for reforestation, forest restoration, and urban environments. 3). To market and identify reproductive material of forest species. 4). To develop afforestation and reforestation studies, and carry out reforestation projects. 5). To plan plantations of forest species. 6). To develop reforestation and ecosystem restoration programs, focused on climate change mitigation.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Importance of reforestation in modern forestry. Purpose of reforestation. Basic principles of reforestation. Selection, collection and control of seed material. Selection of stands for seed collection. Methods of collecting, handling and preserving seeds. Selection of suitable tree species for reforestation, ecological selection, selection depending on the purpose. Native and exotic tree species. Methods of preparation of the surfaces under reforestation. Methods of artificial establishment of forests, stand establishment by seeding, stand establishment by planting. Planting distance and seedling distribution. Planting methods and techniques, rules of successful planting. Care measures for transplanted seedlings, irrigation, weed removal, protection. Monitoring reforestation success. Seedling production-Forest nurseries. Selection of nursery establishment location. Forest nursery design. Production of bare root seedlings. Soil preparation, seeding, irrigation system in forest nurseries. Care and protection of seedlings. Methods to improve the quality of produced seedlings, root cutting, transplanting and hardening of seedlings. Extraction, packaging and transport of seedlings. Control and screening of seedlings. Preservation of plant material. Production of containerized seedlings. Types of plant pots, filling materials (substrates). Production of vegetative saplings. Seedling quality indicators. Fertilization of nurseries. Reforestation plan technical requirements. Monitoring reforestation successs. Reforestation to restore degraded forests and disturbed areas.

Description
The achievement of the learning objectives will be evaluated based on the written examination of the course at the end of the semester, as well as, Successful implementation of forest plant production exercises in the nursery. In order to secure a passing grade (at least 5) it is necessary to achieve a passing grade in the final exam which includes: -Development and Extended Response questions from all course material. -Short answer questions from all the course material -Solving exercises related to the subject of the course. Successful exercises in the production of bare-root and containerized seedlings, and seedlings from cuttings in the nursery.
