Course Content (Syllabus)
According to "WORLD ORGANISATION FOR ANIMAL HEALTH- Veterinary Education Core Curriculum. OIE Guidelines (Sept 2013)"-(https://www.woah.org/app/uploads/2021/03/af-core-ang.pdf) & "OIE recommendations on the Competencies of graduating veterinarians (‘Day 1 graduates’) to assure National Veterinary Services of quality" (http://www.oie.int/fileadmin/Home/eng/Support_to_OIE_Members/Vet_Edu_AHG/DAY_1/DAYONE-B-ang-vC.pdf) course content should provide the veterinary student with comprehensive knowledge of the epidemiology and pathogenesis of infection with important agents of each type; clinical signs and diagnosis of infection; treatment options, including the judicious use of antimicrobials and the development of antimicrobial resistance by the pathogen; development of animal immunity or resistance to infection; prevention and control programmes, including vaccination; and the prognostic and diagnostic value of available laboratory and clinical tests, economic and public health impact. Focus should be on OIE-listed diseases, zoonotic diseases with serious public health implications, and other important diseases either impacting or with the potential to impact the major animal species of particular relevance to Greece.
