Course Content (Syllabus)
1. Introduction to the course. Course aims, contents and schedule. Student participation. Course assessment methods. Guidelines for assignment.
2. Teaching as a science. What is science. The art of science. How we learn. Educators as scientists.
3. How we define behaviour. Operant conditioning.
4. Behaviour problems under the lens of social validity. Behaviour functional assessment.
5. Designing educational interventions based on antecedents.
6. How to set progress targets. How to monitor progress through continuous assessment.
7. Designing educational interventions based on consequences: feedback.
8. Using specific behaviour change techniques: planned ignoring and shaping.
9. Using specific behaviour change techniques: token economies.
10. Using specific behaviour change techniques: group contingencies.
11. Examples from educational practice. Exercises.
