Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of the course the students:
1.will gain the ability to find and exploit the sources of Ecclesiastical History.
2.Moreover, they,through the sources, will have the opportunity to compare and evaluate them.
3. In addition, through the sources, they will be able to approach important issues of the ecclesiastical history of the Orthodox "Genos" and Greece from the 17th to the 20th century.
4. Finally, they will be able, to a large extent, to discern the credibility of sources, in particular modern ones.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Presentation and analysis of the Ecclesiastical history of Greece and Hellenism, based on the sources (published and unpublished) of the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
1. Tracing our identity in the mid-17th century. (From the chronicle of Papa-Synodinos).
2. The searches of Hellenism in the Danubian hegemonies and in the Western European diaspora at the end of the 18th century.
3. Neomartyrs of the Great Church of Christ, between the 17th and 19th centuries. From the testimonials.
4. Orthodox faith and Greeks in the constitutions of the Greek revolution.
5. Communal conflicts in the 19th century. From the archives.
6. Advance to the East by the Associations of our national center. From Association statutes and records.
7. Relations between high priests and consuls in the Ottoman Empire at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th. From the archives.
8. The Episcopal Synod of Thessaloniki through the synodical code (1891-1923).
9. The formation of the Episcopal Synod in the Church of Crete. From archives and newspapers.
10. The Metropolitan issue in the Church of Crete. From archives and newspapers.
11. Ecumenical Patriarchs in the Ottoman Empire in the 20th century. From archives and newspapers.
12. Political control in the Church of Greece. From synodical sources, newspapers and the bibliography.
