Learning Outcomes
Familiarization of students with the phenomenon of religious (and pilgrimage) tourism. The possibility of utilizing theological knowledge in religious-pilgrimage tourism. Acquaintance with the main religious monuments in Greece and abroad. The application of religious-pilgrimage tourism in the classroom and in the catechetical assembly

Course Content (Syllabus)
Specific theoretical knowledge, practical skills and information related to the phenomenon of religious (and pilgrimage) tourism and specifically: its distinguishing characteristics; its relationship with theology and other sciences; its contribution to the emergence of the greek tradition, religious orthodox monuments and shrines; also, its contribution to the local and national economic development and its perspective upgrade in Greece. 1. Introductory meanings, God, man, religion, philosophy, journey. The phenomenon and the meaning of Religious Tourism. Religious – Pilgrimage tours. 2. Religious tourism in Greece. Planning, implementation, data. 3. Orthodox Christian Monuments in Greece. The role of the teachers' of theology and the catechist teachers' in their promotion 4. Religious monuments in the UNESCO list/ Their role in shaping young people as citizens of the Greek State, Europe and the world, thanks to the Orthodox Christian identity. 5. Educational visits to monuments of Christian culture 6. Monasticism as a pole of religious pilgrimage and tourists. The case of Mount Athos. 7. Orthodox Christian Monuments abroad 8. Christian Monuments abroad/Τhe main religious monuments of other religions. 9. Educational trip. Presentation of the monuments to be visited by students 10. Contemporary issues in religious tourism. 11. The professional prospect of religious tourism in Greece. The theologian’s role. 12.
