Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will have learned pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic aspects of drugs acting on the central and peripheral nervous system, the immune system, the endocrine system, as well as of antiviral drugs. Students will have mastered fundamental molecular mechanisms underlying drug actions and correlated them to pathogenetic mechanisms of disease, drug adverse reactions and interactions.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to the Nervous System pharmacology. Neuron cell types. Synapses. Taxonomy of neuronal receptors. Structure-activity relationships of neurotransmitters. Autonomous nervous system. Parasympathomimetic drugs. Acetyl-cholinesterase-inhibiting drugs. Parasympatholytic drugs. Ganglioplegic drugs and drugs acting on the neuromuscular junction. Sympathomimetics. Sympatholytics acting on adrenergic alpha- or beta- receptors. Anti-parkinsonism drugs. CNS depressant agents. Barbiturates. Antidepressant and antianxiety agents. Psychotropics. Anti-psychosis drugs. Psycho-stimulants. Alcohols. General and local anesthetic agents. Opioid analgesics. Immunosuppressants. Sera. Vaccines. Antibodies. Anti-hypercholesterolemia drugs. Hormones of hypothalamus and pituitary gland (hypophysis). Thyroid hormones and related drugs. Adrenal glands hormones and related agents. Estrogens. Androgens. Diabetes. Insulin and related drugs.
