General Prerequisites
The course introduces students to basic concepts and definitions related to the use of digital technology in language teaching/learning. As part of the course, participants learn to collect and use learning materials for language teaching/learning, and explore a variety of techniques such as digitizing, recording, storing, and retrieving language resources. In addition, the course covers the understanding and use of learning objects, text corpora, language resources and their use in the development of complex electronic language teaching environments.
A significant part of the course is devoted to an examination of current concepts and methods related to mobile learning. In addition, students explore virtual and augmented reality in the context of language education, as well as the importance of digital storytelling in language teaching/learning.
Overall, the course offers a comprehensive and practical approach to the use of digital technologies in language education, making it useful for teachers, researchers and practitioners interested in integrating new digital tools and methods in language teaching/learning.
Learning Outcomes
Students at the end of the semester should have the basic knowledge of the use and exploitation of various software applications, how they work and the possibilities they offer in the language classroom and also be able to:
- recognise the basic concepts and definitions related to the use of digital technology in language teaching/learning.
- carry out research and make use of the Internet using advanced search techniques in order to: - manage any kind of information (text, audiovisual extracts, etc.) that may be useful in language teaching/learning,
- learn to collect and use learning materials for language learning.
- explain different techniques such as digitisation, recording, storage and retrieval of language resources.
- investigate and exploit software and capabilities of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 technologies and web services in order to collect and/or develop complex learning objects and use them in the educational process,
- interpret and apply knowledge in the development of complex online environments for language teaching.
- discover contemporary concepts and methods related to mobile learning.
- anticipate the impact of virtual and augmented reality on language teaching/learning.
- evaluate the use of digital technologies and their influence on language education.
- design and implement language teaching approaches using new digital tools and methods.
