Learning Outcomes
Students, upon completion of the course, will be able to: - produce and implement multilingual activities in the classroom - cultivate reflective, multilingual and intercultural skills in their pupils - evaluate language policies in relation to bilingual/multilingualism issues, as well as in relation to language teaching and learning of vulnerable social groups - compare and contrast practices and models for managing cultural and linguistic pluralism in education

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course deals with concepts of linguistics and teaching methodology that are necessary for the implementation of bilingual/multilingual education programmes. Characteristics of bilingualism and multilingualism at individual and social level are discussed, as well as language policies on bilingualism/multilingualism and language status. Dimensions of bilingualism/multilingualism in language teaching/learning are examined. Emphasis is placed on cultural pluralism and its management models in education, the basic principles of intercultural education, intercultural competence and readiness of teachers and teaching choices and practices of interlingualism. Educational and language policies and practices relating to refugees and vulnerable social groups, as well as the link between family language policy and childhood bilingualism, are being particularly addressed.

Description
Teaching takes place in person with the use of presentation software of the learning material. Moreover, the theory is supported by examples which are presented either in printed form or in the form of audiovisual material with a view to deepening the concepts treated in the seminar, but also the development of reflective skills of the participants.

Student Assessment
Description
The final grade is composed of three parts: • attendance and active participation in the seminar (20% of the grade) • oral presentation (30% of the grade) • final paper at the end of the semester (50% of the grade) Each part shall be passed with at least a 6/10 mark.
