Learning Outcomes
The students learn to understand the organization and structure of a tragic play, its place in the literary tradition, and its influence on later drama. They also learn to tease out the evolution of modern theoretical approaches and their contribution to the study of tragedy.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focuses on close reading of a tragic play aiming at familiarizing the students with tragedy as a literary and theatrical phenomenon. Emphasis is also placed on the presentation of the narrative means used by the playwright and on the latest theoretical approaches to the study of tragedy.
