Learning Outcomes
The successful completion of the course should allow the students:
1. To identify the structural and organizational characteristics, as well as the requirements for the operation of a construction site.
2. To be aware of the issues and parameters related to the operation of a construction site and be able to apply their knowledge to the design and build of a construction site's facilities and infrastructure.
3. To identify the necessary construction layouts according to project characteristics.
4. To identify the main construction equipment and their operation
5. To calculate the productivity of the equipment and to conduct the operation analysis of construction projects.
6. To understand construction equipment economics in order to perform fleet management.
7. To understand and be able to manage health and safety issues, logistics, economics, and environmental issues of construction sites.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Types of construction sites. Construction site layout and control (design, methodology and planning). Construction site infrastructure (temporary facilities, buildings, material storage areas, crews). Construction equipment basics (use, factors of selection according project’s characteristics). Operation Analysis (theory and practice). Human resources and their interaction in project (qualifications, responsibilities). Construction equipment productivity and operators (in relation with projects productivity). Construction site management (human resources, organization, processes). Health and safety issues in construction projects. Construction projects' logistics. Environmental management of site wastes and byproducts. Monitoring sites with Information Technology applications.
