Course Content (Syllabus)
Materials and Design. Materials classification. Design types. Design parameters. Material performance. Cost versus value. The material selection process. Methods of Materials Selection – Selection based on technical analysis, correlation and analogy. Classification based on performance indices. Multiple targets and constraints. Environmental materials selection. Materials selection databases. Introduction to industrial manufacturing processes. Shaping (casting, molding, deformation, machining), joining-welding and surface treatment processes. Processes for powders and composites. Process and shape. Process quantitative properties. Process selection. Analysis of manufacturing cost.

Written examination that includes topics-questions that require critical thinking about phenomena and properties and applications of materials. Preparation of a study for the selection of material based on specific technological requirements and configuration of the appropriate characteristics.
