Course Content (Syllabus)
Low-dimensionality materials are advanced materials with at least one dimension lying in the nanoscale level. They are classified in three main categories: multilayered structures, nanodots and nanoparticles. First, the module introduces students to the fundamentals of materials physics, magnetism and nanotechnology. The second part explains the growth and characterization techniques applied in the low-dimensional materials. The major methods to identify the structural, morphological, magnetic and electrical characterization of nanomaterials are analyzed. Specific emphasis is given in the hygiene and safety rules for the corresponding research laboratories. In addition, the possible risk raised by the production and application of nanomaterials in human health and the environment are also discussed. The last part is focusing on the special features of nanomaterials which render them as promising candidates in magnetic recording, sensing and biomedical applications.
