Course Content (Syllabus)
Field trip Grevena (3rd Semester). The exercise takes place in the context of the Compulsory Course in Petrology of Sedimentary Rocks. It includes a visit to places of the Middle Greek Molasses Aulakas, in Pindos and in the Basin of Ventzia, all in the area of ​​Grevena. The purpose of the exercise is to study clastic sedimentary rocks, to understand their macrostructures and their connection with specific geotectonic environments. Field trip Sithonia (3rd Semester). The exercise takes place in the context of the Compulsory Course in Petrology of Fiery Rocks. The purposes of the exercise are: the recognition of igneous rocks in the field,sampling, the identification of structures, geological contacts and relationships between petrographic types and characteristic textures. Field trip Almopia (3rd Semester). The exercise takes place in the context of the Compulsory Course in Petrology of Igneous Rocks. The purposes of the exercise are: the recognition of igneous rocks in the field, sampling,the identification of structures, geological contacts and relationships between petrographic types and characteristic textures. The Fanou granite, the genesis of each group of rock of Almopia (ophiolite rocks, Miocene-Pleiocene volcanic rocks. Field trip Strymonikos gulf - Galipsos (3rd Semester). The exercise is carried out in the context of the Compulsory Course Invertebrate Paleontology. The purpose of the exercise is: to collect and identify fossils and fossilized rocks in the field. Various types of fossils are presented and described as well as general information about the area and the old environments to which the fossils and their geological age were attributed. Field trip Alistrati (3rd semester). The exercise takes place in the context of the Compulsory Physics Geography Course. The subject of the exercise is Physical Geography, Karst Geomorphology, Speleology. The exercise area is Alistrati, Serres, and the Strymon River. It includes a visit to the Alistrati Cave, the gorge of the river Aggitis and the valley of the river Strymon near Amphipolis. Field trip Hortiatis (4th Semester). The exercise takes place in the context of the Compulsory Petrology Course of Metamorphic Rocks. The purposes of the exercise are: - Recognition and differentiation of metamorphic rocks in the field. - Understanding their relationship. - Recognition of structures, geological contacts and relationships between lithological types and characteristic textures. - Understanding the origin of the rocks and the geotectonic environment in which they were formed. Field trip Kilkis-Kalamoto (4th Semester). The exercise takes place within the framework of the Compulsory Course of Paleontology of Vertebrates. It includes a visit to the Cave of Agios Georgios Kilkis and the Paleontological collection preserved there, as well as to the Museum of Natural History of Kalamato (Migdonia Lekani). The purpose of the exercise is to demonstrate paleontological collections of vertebrates and excavation sites, as well as the recognition of individual burial processes and important for the Greek archive of taxonomic groups.
