Course Content (Syllabus)
The course examines the institution of the patriarchal stauropegion, particularly focusing on the most significant events and individuals who contributed to its formation throughout the history of patriarchal and stauropegial monasteries during the Ottoman period, drawing from the historical trajectory of the local churches of the provinces of Veria - Naousa and Kitros. -- Introduction -- The institution of the Patriarchal Stauropegion -- The privileged status of stauropegial monasteries -- The Holy Monastery of the Honorable Forerunner (Skete) of Veria: Historical elements -- The Holy Monastery of the Honorable Forerunner (Skete) of Veria and the ecclesiastical figures associated with it -- Patriarchal sigils of granting and renewing stauropegial privileges of the Holy Monastery of the Honorable Forerunner (Skete) of Veria, 17th-18th centuries -- Patriarchal sigils of granting and renewing stauropegial privileges of the Holy Monastery of the Honorable Forerunner (Skete) of Veria, 19th century -- The Monastery of Saint Athanasios of Sfinitsa: A historical overview (1788-1994) -- New findings on the history of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Makryrachi of Pieria until the early 20th century -- Unpublished documents of the Ecumenical Patriarchate regarding the Holy Monastery of the Presentation of the Theotokos of Petra Olympus. Student Assessment
Description
Oral exam in groups at the end of the semester. The exam is conducted by the professor and its results are available to the students. Written exam for special and legally prescribed categories of students. Alternative examination through assignments for foreign students.
