Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
• Understand the processes of designing, organizing, measuring, and evaluating motor skills,
• Recognize the necessity and importance of measuring and evaluating motor skills in sports, education, and health,
• Process, analyze, and interpret the data and information collected during the measurement of motor skills,
• Integrate their knowledge to effectively evaluate motor skills,
• Apply their knowledge to design exercise/intervention programs aimed at improving motor skill performance,
• Use modern technology tools and specialized laboratory methods for the measurement and evaluation of motor skills,
• Communicate, both in written and oral form, the scientific knowledge derived from the measurement and evaluation of motor skills to the scientific community.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Session 1 – The nature of motor behavior
Session 1 – The meaning of the terms ability and skill
Session 1 – The concepts of measurement and evaluation. Components of reliability, validity, and objectivity
Session 1 – Experimental design and research methods (laboratory vs. field measurement)
Session 2 – Specialized instruments and software for data measurement and evaluation
Session 2 – Measurement and evaluation of perceptual-motor skills – Lab session (Reaction Time): Visual – Auditory – Haptic Stimulus with the use of E-Prime software
Session 3 – Measurement and evaluation of cognitive–perceptual–motor asymmetries
Session 4 – Measurement and evaluation of voluntary perceptual-motor skills – Lab session: Reaching – Catching
Session 5 – Measurement and evaluation of gait skills – Lab session: VICON vs PodoSmart
Sessions 6 & 7 – Measurement and evaluation of eye movements – Lab session: Pupil Labs Glasses – EyeTribe
Session 8 – Measurement and evaluation of balance skills – Lab session: Posture – Balance (static vs dynamic)
Session 9 – Using time-series Data - Methodology of Measurement and evaluation – Lab session: Using Software for Analysis
Session 10 – Literature search in open and subscription-based databases – Techniques for conducting literature reviews
