Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: - plan, design and execute the key and supporting logistical functions; - decide on the appropriate type of supply chain operation, taking into account the characteristics of the products/services and their resulting requirements/constraints on supply chain operations; - adopt a systemic and holistic approach (integrative supply chain management) with simultaneous consideration of strong interdependencies and cost trade-offs among individual SCM functions; - apply the appropriate methods/tools and techniques for the optimization of supply chain design and operations, with special focus on facility location, transport modelling, as well as inventory and warehouse management.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The objective of the course is to introduce basic concepts and methods related to the planning, design and operation of contemporary supply chains of companies and organizations. The course addresses the strategic role and importance of the supply chain business function and discusses emerging trends and new perspectives on Supply Chain Management (SCM) in the global business and international trade context. Particular emphasis is placed on the decision support and optimization of supply chain network design, as well as the performance assessment of customer service, inventory control, and freight transport operations. The course will cover the following thematic units: i) supply chain operation, ii) demand/order management and customer service, iii) inventory management, iv) warehouse design and operations, v) distribution channels, vi) procurement management and logistics outsourcing, vii) Warehouse 4.0 and viii) Transport 4.0.

The major ICT tools used within the framework of this course are the following: - Email and (less often) Zoom/Meet communication. - E-learning systems/platforms (e.g., Zoom/Meet) - File exchange/sharing through Drive/Dropbox and eLearning (Moodle) (e.g., course syllabus, lecture material, case studies). - Extensive use of Microsoft Office (mainly Word and Powerpoint)

The course grading policy is discussed in class during the 1st lecture, it is explicitly stated in the course syllabus and is based on the following criteria: - Active class participation (incl. term paper presentation): 15% - Term paper deliverable/report: 25% - Final exam: 60%
