Course Content (Syllabus)
The aim of the course is to study common reflections, trends, currents and ideologies reflected in important European literary works, which constitute, beyond geographical boundaries, the foundations of European thought and the character of European culture. In particular, a theme is selected and representative works of different genres, periods and languages follow a literary analysis. 1. Introduction to concept of European Literature 2. The beginnings of European Literature 3. Literature and European culture 4. General features of European Literature 5. The great European writers 6. Trends and types of the medieval period 7. The spirit of humanity in Europe 8. The Age of Enlightenment: Between Critical Thinking and Rebellion 9. The Romantic Europe 10. From realism to modernism 11. A Europe of Pioneering and Political Engagement 12. Modern and postmodern trends 13. The evolution of literary criticism
