Upon successful completion of this course the studnets should be able to:
1) understand the basic facts of balkan history in the 19th and 20th century
2) put the main histrorical landmarks of Balkan history in their proper historical context
3) analyse the process of construction of Balkan national movements
4) analyse the issue of the presence of violence in modern Balkan history
5) familiarise themselves with the methods of historical analysis of facts and processes in Balkan history

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course is a critical introduction to modern Balkan History in the 19th and 20th centuries. In particular, the course examines include the position of the Balkans in the Ottoman Empire, the national and state formation in the 19th century, the Eastern Question, the emergence of Balkan nationalism, the Balkan economy and society, the national and social conflicts during the Interwr period and he Second World War, and the most important post-war developments.
