Learning Outcomes
The students participate in a musical ensemble that will collectively compose and perform Music for Cinema. No previous knowledge of music is required. After successful completion of the course, the students will develop the ability to accompany movies with live music as members of a musical ensemble.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This laboratory course focuses on the composition and performance of music for silent films, though it also welcomes the use of other pre-existing visual or audiovisual material. The course adopts a hands-on, experiential approach, aiming to cultivate collaborative creativity within a musical ensemble while deepening students’ understanding of audiovisual narration through musical practice. No prior musical knowledge or instrumental skills are required. Each session includes a brief theoretical segment focusing on a specific aspect of ensemble performance, followed by practical application. Over the semester, students select and musically accompany at least three different silent films through live performances. Due to the workshop-based nature of the course, attendance is mandatory and active participation is essential for achieving learning outcomes.

Student Assessment
Description
Evaluation is based on a final live performance, held within or outside the university. Students are assessed according to:
• Progress and active participation throughout the semester.
• Responsiveness to musical challenges (dynamics, balance, ensemble cohesion).
• Attendance and contribution during rehearsals.
Due to the workshop-based nature of the course, attendance is mandatory. Students with more than three unexcused absences are not eligible to participate in the final performance and will not receive a grade.
