Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will:
(1) acquire knowledge about the accurate diagnosis of various types of dementia and cognitive decline,
(2) acquire knowledge about ways to enhance and/or maintain the cognitive status of older adults with dementia at a stable level, and
(3) acquire intervention skills aimed at enhancing the ability of older adults with dementia to live relatively independently in the community.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to familiarize students with the cognitive pathology of aging. Various types of dementia are examined on a theoretical level and through the analysis of case studies of typical and atypical cases of specific types of dementia. In detail, there are presented issues related to the epidemiology of dementia, the assessment of a cognitively impaired adult, vascular cognitive impairment, the pathology of degenerative types of dementia, concepts and new definitions of Alzheimer's disease as well as diagnostic criteria and its management, frontotemporal types of dementia, Parkinson's disease dementia and Lewy body dementia.
