They will be introduced to a new subject, which will be approached in an interdisciplinary way. They will be introduced to one of the most emerging sectors of the global economy, which offers prospects for research and career guidance. They will see the applications of space technologies in various sectors of the economy, politics, security and everyday life.

Will have become familiar with a relatively unfamiliar subject. They will be familiar with a branch of law that has not been adequately studied in Greece. They will be in a position to provide valid information on issues related to the exploration and exploitation of space. They will be able to put into practice the knowledge and understanding they have acquired. They will have a competitive advantage in the labour market in Greece and abroad.
Course Content (Syllabus)
In this interdisciplinary course, the activities of states and the private sector in space and the set of rules that regulate the exploration and economic exploitation of space are first examined. It examines the contribution of technology to the development of space applications, presents the research experiments carried out on the International Space Station, and makes particular reference to the support activities of human space missions. The space sector is of particular strategic importance for the European Union. In this context, the Space Strategy for Europe, the European space programmes and the proposal for a Regulation on the EU Space Programme Agency are discussed. At the same time, the role of the European Space Agency (ESA) in the development of space policy in Europe is examined and a presentation is made of the most important ESA programmes and partnerships, such as the recent cooperation with NASA under the Artemis Programme on the mission of humans to the Moon by 2024. Also presented and analysed are all the terms and procedures for the licensing of space activities in the EU and Greece, their supervision and the liability regime for damage caused by space objects, while reference is made to the newly established Hellenic Space Centre. Particular reference will be made to the investments of States and private parties in the space sector, while the strategies and policies of States for space will also be examined. Finally, the part of the research work of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki that concerns space will be presented.
