Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, students will: 1. Know about the current trends in the travel industry and the different types of coastal tourism. 2. Be aware of the global challenges and crises in the tourism industry. 3. Be able to analyse and discuss how travel journalists, travellers, and national tourism organisations construct tourists’ experiences and destination images. 4. Analyse and discuss the assets and resources of a travel destination. 5. Have basic knowledge about sustainability in Tourism. 6. Will be able to develop an entrepreneural idea for sustainable tourism in coastal areas.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This English-speaking course provides students with a broad understanding of the global tourism sector in the light of the Sustainable Development Goals and the next Generation Skills. The course examines the nexus 'Tourism- Media- Sustainability- Entrepreneurship'. It focuses on the latest trends in the travel industry and sustainable tourism niche markets and examines success stories and case studies. Students examine the role of digital and social media in destination branding, and develop skills to communicate sustainable tourism products and services. The course is research- and project-based and offers a combination of theory, case studies, workshops, and individual research. Each semester, a specific form of sustainable tourism will be the study case. Coastal and maritime tourism will be this semester’s theme. Key topics: -Global trends and niche markets in travel and tourism -Challenges and crises in tourism -The Ocean Decade and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development -Sustainable forms of coastal tourism -Travel media and digital travel storytelling -Media representations of sustainable travel experiences -Branding a travel experience -From a travel experience idea to a tourism product
