Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course’s students will be able to: • Know the basic principles of conducting a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. • Choose the appropriate review method per case (systematic or narrative). • Select the appropriate method per case Meta-Analysis. • Acquire practical skills and abilities in conducting searches for scientific publications in digital sources. • Define search queries using operators and search terms. • Define inclusion or exclusion criteria during the search. • Determine the scale of validity of the evidence of the studies for the evaluation of the publications that will participate in the Systematic Review and / or in the Meta-Analysis. • Present in a comprehensible way the strategy of conducting the Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis that they have adopted. • Develop critical thinking about the importance and interpretation of the results of Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. • Communicate and collaborate with researchers from other scientific specialties to conduct a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. • Learn to present and comment on the results of a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. • Develop the ability to present the results of a Systematic Review and / or Meta-Analysis in a way that clearly answers the research question that has been asked and, in a form, suitable for disseminating the results to the scientific community. • Apply knowledge in practice.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to Systematic Review. Defining a focused research question and develop a Review Protocol - Search Strategy. Comparison of Systematic and Narrative Review. Principles and key features of an effective Systematic Review. Stages of conducting a Systematic Review: Scoping – Planning – Identification/Searching – Screening - Eligibility/Assessment - Presentation/Interpretation. Points of attention when conducting a Systematic Review. Presentation of the results of a Systematic Review - Prisma Diagram. 8. Response to the research question based on the results of a Systematic Review. Exercises for conducting searches on scientific digital publication databases. Exercises for presenting and interpreting the results of a Systematic review. Introduction to Meta-Analysis. Basic concepts and definitions. Advantages and disadvantages. The concept and types of quantification (measurement) of the size of the effect or the result (effect size). Weight performance in studies. Mathematical models. Demonstration and use of the appropriate software to conduct a Meta-Analysis. Complementarity of Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. Examples and applications from the field of Biological Sciences.
