After the courses, the student will be capable of identifying the various types of seismic damage, the codes for seismic retrofitting of existing construction, the traditional and new technologies in the repair/strengthening of existing construction.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Pathology-vulnerability of R/C structures due to seismic actions. Parameters that influence the failure mode, the distribution and location of damages. Assessment and evaluation of damages. Planning of pre- and post-earthquake structural retrofitting. Intervention criteria – Distinction between repair and strengthening. Repair and strengthening methods (Intervention methods) – Design of retrofit schemes. Seismic assessment and design of retrofit strategies. Assessment and retrofitting codes (KANEPE and Eurocode 8 - Part 3).
