Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the students have understood the laws that govern the propagation of seismic waves inside the Earth (reflection, refraction, diffraction, amplitude and energy changes). For this purpose, the wave theory is used as well as elements of the theory of elasticity. With these supplies, students will be able to recognize and distinguish phases in seismic recordings as well as understand and use waveform modeling software.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Wave propagation on a string: normal modes, reflection, transmission, energy of harmonic waves Stress and strain Principal stresses, equation of motion, constitutive equations Seismic waves, plane and spherical waves, body waves Snell's law, apparent velocity, ray parameter, slowness. Reflection and transmission coefficients.

Description
Use of powerpoint for teaching theory and for the presentations of students' work. Communication via emails when questions arise from students during their home study. Use of email for forwarding to students additional educational material.

Description
The evaluation of students is done through tasks assigned to them during the teaching procedure of the theory but also through written exams carried out at the end of the academic semester with topics related to the understanding of the course they were taught.
