Learning Outcomes
After the completion of the course, students will possess specialized knowledge on Byzantine Archaeology, on Byzantine Material Culture and on Byzantine Architecture and art. They will be able to analyse and assess comparatively the art of each period of the Byzantine History, will be able to correlate Byzantine archaeology andmaterila culture. Finally they will be able to answer specialized questions within the specific topic, which involve both critical thinking and empirical knowledge

Course Content (Syllabus)
The purpose of this course is the contact of the students with Byzantine Archaeology and the Material Culture in Byzantium (324-1453) in general. They will be presented all the historical periods in Byzantium and for each one the historical context, the social and artistic environment and background and selections from the religious and secular architecture. Also selections from the byzantine sculpture, the minor arts and the other applied arts in Byzantium. Through these presentations which will be with rich photographic material will be achieved the contact of the students with Byzantine Archaeology, with special sectors of the material culture of Byzantium, as well as with special technical terms
