Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to:
a) familiarise themselves with main aspects of the social and cultural history of early modern Europe b) critically engage with primary and secondary sources of the period c) understand the different historiographical trends concerning the study of the period under examination.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course examines socio-political and cultural developments in early modern western Europe (1500-1800), with an emphasis on social and religious transformations, new intellectual currents, Europe's relations with the rest of the world, as well as with how marginalized people (minorities, criminals, patients) were treated. The course analyzes how the ways in which Europeans understood themselves and the world around them changed dramatically both through contact with other continents and through the use of the printed word.
