Course Content (Syllabus)
This course focuses on the Archaeology and art of the Hellenistic and Roman Civilization from the era of Alexander the Great to the late antiquity. Representative examples of the various categories of the Hellenistic and Roman art, such as architecture, sculpture, painting and small-scale art, will be presented along with the examination of the conditions that shaped their development. For that reason the monuments of each period will be integraded into their historical context and will be discussed in relation with the political and social structures of that period and the economic organisation as well. In addition, students might have the opportunity to practice and focus on particular topics by visiting archaeological sites and museums.
