Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will familiarize with: -theory, methods, tools (analytical and synthetic) for intervention in a constantly changing urban landscape, focusing on identification-evaluation-planning issues regarding the open space of the contemporary city -the principal theories, the logic and the basic concepts of spatial analysis and planning with main perspective towards the urban scale and regional scale

Course Content (Syllabus)
Relation between city and natural landscape. The network of public open spaces as key element of urban design. Forms, structure and evolution of the contemporary city Theoretical approaches and models for urban space. Contemporary urban design concepts for central areas, residential quarters and new development areas. Interrelationship between physical and cultural resources. Land reserves and new forms of dispersed urban development: Reuse/regeneration of derelict areas (industrial areas, waterfronts etc), Integration of open spaces and infrastructures in the contemporary urban tissue / Urban parks / Restoration of degraded landscapes; new aesthetic and ecological principles in an urban scale.
