Course Objective and Description
The course focuses on enabling students to plan, organize, evaluate and safely perform a series of spring and summer outdoor sports activities that take place in the wet element, in a lakeside, but also in a mountainous-semi-mountainous environment. The theoretical part of the course, in addition to the planning of outdoor sports activities, also aims to introduce students to the rapidly growing "industry" of sports recreation and leisure, through the case study presentation of local companies in this field.
Learning Objectives
The course aims to:
• In activating students in sports activities in nature, as opposed to activities that take place in ordinary sports facilities in an urban environment
• In their contact with nature, the liquid element (lake), the lake flora and fauna, the horse in the mountain
• In the use of the bicycle outside the city, both as a means of transportation and exercise
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will acquire:
Knowledge:
• Basic concepts of applying means and taking measures to avoid accidents in Outdoor Sports Activities.
• Organizing and executing Outdoor Sports Activities with large or small groups of participants
• Orientation in the area with a map and compass.
Skills:
• Coordinated rowing in a group of three people in a canoe.
• Climbing and descending a training wall.
• Correct handling of a bow and arrow during archery.
• Guiding a horse during mountain riding.
Skills:
• Teaching basic elements of Outdoor Sports Activities to beginners.
• Taking on the roles of leader (driver) and follower ("broom") in cycling on the road.
• Cooperation in sports activities in water and land environments.
• Ability to properly drive and sail a canoe.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Detailed program & Learning Outcome Mapping
Day 1
- Mountain biking:
selection and adjustment of bike and helmet, routes of increasing difficulty.
- Cycling on a public asphalt road.
compliance with safety rules when cycling on a road with simultaneous vehicle traffic, covering a medium-distance route.
Learning outcome: New technical skill
Day 2
- Canoeing:
lake route, approximately 2.5 hours, in three-masted canoes
- Cycling on a public asphalt road:
compliance with safety rules when cycling on a road with simultaneous vehicle traffic, covering a medium-distance route.
- Archery:
explanation and demonstration of technique, strict adherence to accident prevention measures, aiming from a distance of 20 meters and assessment of the accuracy of the students.
- Climbing on a training wall:
equipment, accessories (Botrie, protective helmet, Carabiner, ropes, etc.) and techniques for tying and securing the trainee by a trained assistant. The different holds ("handholds") and choice of climbing route on the wall.
- Flying fox:
simultaneous suspension of two people on a 50-meter wire rope with special equipment and belaying by specialized assistants at the start and finish of the route.
Learning outcomes: Learning new skills. Driving a canoe in a lake environment. Learning to climb / descend.
3rd Day
- Horseback Riding:
explanation of horse guidance, and a tour route in a mountainous area with a moderate elevation difference.
- Orienteering:
presentation of the sport, learning to use a map and compass, covering a route with simulation in competitive conditions. Final exam in this activity with timing and checking of the coverage of the route through the correct control points.
Learning Outcomes: Learning a new skill. Contact with the natural environment in the mountain, contact with the horse.
