Learning Outcomes
After successful course completion, students should be able to:
Knowledge
- To distinguish and evaluate the scientific knowledge of sports medicine.
- To recognize and interpret the effect of exercise in extreme environments.
- To recognize situations of serious criticality in exercisers and athletes.
- To describe and interpret the benefits of exercise in situations such as pregnancy, people with disabilities, people after arthroplasty surgery.
- To recognize the most common injuries in team (basketball, football, volleyball) and individual sports (track and field).
- To recognize the most common injuries in winter sports.
Skills
- To know the basic skills of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- To recognize basic injuries of athletes/trainees and to be able to provide basic first aid before the necessity of medical intervention.
- To be able to determine which situations require immediate treatment by specialized and specialized medical personnel.
- To be able to determine the suitability or otherwise of an exercise program for a specific population group (children, the elderly, pregnant women, etc.).
Abilities
- Application of sports medicine knowledge in practice.
- Ability to make decisions in situations critical to the health of athletes/trainees.
- Working in teams within an interdisciplinary environment.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to:
1. Provide necessary knowledge on general and specific issues of Sports Medicine.
2. Learn the importance of exercise throughout life, either as a means of prevention or as a means of rehabilitation of various diseases.
3. Identify potential risks during exercise and exercise-related complications with the aim of safe training.
4. The importance of prevention in individuals of various ages in the general population.
Week Content Learning Outcomes
1st week Introduction to the science of Sports Medicine. Understanding the theoretical basis of the science of Sports Medicine and its applications.
2nd week Sudden cardiac death in athletes - CPR. Understanding all possible causes of sudden cardiac death in athletes and the application and importance of CPR.
3rd week Fractures and stress fractures and methods of treatment - First aid in the field. Identification of possible anatomical areas for fracture occurrence as well as methods of treatment - First aid.
4th week The athlete's foot. Understanding the causes/risk factors as well as methods of treatment and prevention.
5th week Foot diseases. Understanding the most common foot diseases and methods of treatment.
6th week Injuries in the sport of basketball. Understanding the most common injuries in the sport of basketball and providing first aid.
7th Weak Exercise and people with disabilities. Understanding the forms of disability and the importance of sports classification.
8th week Doping in amateur and professional sports. Definition of a doped athlete - risks to the health of athletes - ways to deal with it.
9th week Groin pain. Definition, anatomical location, risk factors and ways to deal with it.
10th week Injuries in winter sports. Understanding the most common injuries in winter sports and ways to prevent them.
11th week Exercise and the elderly. Definition of the elderly, benefits of exercise and ways to exercise.
12th week Exercise in pregnancy. Definition of pregnancy, risk factors during pregnancy, benefits of exercise and safer ways to exercise.
13th week Exercise and hot environments. Presentation of assignments. Definition of heatstroke and hyperthermia, safe ways to exercise in the summer months, ways to treat hyperthermia and heatstroke.
