Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will acquire:
Knowledge
1. Knowledge of the historical evolution of the sport, the playing field, the rules of conduct and purpose of the game, as well as basic and specialized rules of volleyball.
2. Knowledge of key competencies and the process of selecting volleyball athletes.
3. Knowledge of basic stances and movements, general and specialized principles and methods of warm-up in volleyball, and understanding of the theoretical foundation of all essential motor skills in volleyball (overhead pass, underhand pass, reception, defense, serve, attack, block). Methodological approach, possible execution errors, their causes, and corrections.
4. Knowledge of simple and specialized individual and team tactics for each of the above motor skills, as well as understanding of game systems such as 6:0, 4:2, 4:2 with specialized attackers, and 5:1.
5. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, coaching methodology, psychology, health, and nutrition related to volleyball.
6. Knowledge of how to organize a lesson and a training unit, as well as how to organize volleyball tournaments and matches.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Purpose and description
The purpose of this course is to prepare students on a theoretical, practical, and pedagogical level, to provide knowledge, to cultivate and improve their individual motor skills in volleyball, so that they may understand and apply the sport at athletic, coaching, and instructional levels.
The course focuses on the understanding of both basic and specialized individual and team tactics and game systems. It includes the teaching of fundamental training principles and methods, the development of the ability to design training programs and lesson plans, as well as the pedagogical approach and adaptation to various age groups and competitive levels.
Furthermore, it aims to create conditions and strategies for communication and collaboration among students, to promote knowledge of the official rules of the game, and to develop skills in managing and organizing matches. The course also emphasizes performance evaluation—of both athletes and students—as well as self-assessment of the lesson, the methods, and the tools used.
Finally, students are expected to apply appropriate academic sources and literature in the preparation of assignments and in future academic or professional endeavors.
Course Objectives
The course aims to:
1. Develop theoretical knowledge, technical and tactical skills, and the coaching, instructional, and pedagogical competence of the student.
2. Promote understanding of both basic and advanced individual and team tactics in volleyball.
3. Deepen the scientific approach to the sport through anatomy, kinesiology, physiology, coaching science, and sports psychology.
4. Foster professional readiness as physical education specialists and volleyball coaches.
5. Support instructional and pedagogical training by enabling students to:
o Design, organize, and evaluate volleyball lessons in school and extracurricular settings.
o Select teaching methods appropriate for different age groups and competition levels.
6. Encourage the development of motor and coaching skills, individual improvement of movement capabilities, and immediate feedback on training methods and programs.
7. Ensure understanding of the official rules of the sport.
8. Promote knowledge of fundamental principles of health, nutrition, and injury prevention and management.
9. Cultivate evaluation and self-evaluation skills by enabling students to:
Assess athletes’ progress using both objective and subjective criteria.
Develop self-assessment and self-regulation competencies.
